J.Lincoln@gaiconsultants.com About Us Our mission is to provide a forum for members and partners of the highway industry to promoste a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system through education, innovation and fellowship. The Franklin Section typically meets the third Tuesday of every month (see News/Events for details) and membership averages 150 with the ASHE National averaging 6,500. You do not have to be a Professional Engineer to join ASHE. Our Section has representation from various agencies working to improve the transportation industry, as well as retired members providing their many years of valuable knowledge. The Franklin Sections covers Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer, Forest and Venango Counties. Message from our 2019 President Linda Zug Hello and welcome everyone to the 2019/2020 ASHE Franklin section! I am your new President for the upcoming year and, let me tell you, this is quite the honor. I have been a member of the ASHE Franklin section for more than 25 years and involved in the transportation industry for almost 30. I look forward to working with many of you over the coming year. We are always excited to meet up with friends, new and old, at our wonderful section events to promote the transportation industry. That is where we need your help—to get new people to our section events. Bring someone with you! We have many different styles of events, from the annual steak fry or the golf outing, to a regular dinner meeting discussing current transportation projects. We can never have enough returning and/or new members and volunteers present. Our meeting calendar runs from January to October, so there is plenty of time left this year to invite someone. Also, talk to a board member and see how your talents can benefit ASHE Franklin. Check back often to the ASHE Franklin website for updates regarding awards, recognitions, and dinner events. We all know that sometimes actually attending an event can be difficult to manage with all of our other family and work expectations. Social networking online makes it easy to feel connected; however, nothing compares to talking to someone face-to-face about a project or problem, or listening to a presentation about something that helps that next project become a reality. We owe it to our awkward inner-selves and to our actual network of real people to be at that next meeting, to make that next connection—you never know where it will lead you. Trust me, I never thought I would be the President of an ASHE section. Thanks to your generosity, the Franklin section just awarded $4,000 in scholarships to five deserving college-bound student applicants. The BJ Smith Scholarship Fund is a wonderful way to help our future engineers. Our next round of applications will be due before you know it, so think about your neighbors, friends, and family and send them to the application link. They don’t need to be members of ASHE Franklin, but it helps. Our scholarships are awarded to children of ASHE members, along with students who reside or attend school in the section’s geographic area and are studying Civil Engineering or another transportation-related field. Finally, I would like to thank the sponsors of our dinner meetings. They help keep registration costs down and make ASHE Franklin section meetings one of the best bargains in the highway industry. Thank you also to our board of directors, past presidents and board members, and to you, all of our members, for the wonderful support of the section and industry.
